Cecelia Diane Wilson

October 5, 1954 - February 12, 2021

Obituary Cecelia Diane Leonard-Wilson was born October 5, 1954, to Eugene Leonard and Helen L. Rogers-Leonard in Chicago, IL. She was the fourth of eight siblings. Cecelia accepted Christ early in life when she joined Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastorship of the Reverend John D. Digby Jr., PhD, where she served as a member for over 45+ years. Cecelia attended Carver Area High School and graduated in 1972. In 1982, she attended Bryman College in Chicago, IL and earned an Associates in Nursing. Outside of nursing, along her journey, she became certified in various vocational fields. She was a jack of all trades. Cecelia loved her family to the fullest. In 1975, she met a young man named Frederick L. Hunter, Sr., from Detroit, MI. They later married the same year and from this union three wonderful children were born, Washitha R. Hunter-Burton, Helen T.D. Hunter, and Frederick L. Hunter, Jr. Cecelia served as a member of various committees and community organizations, such as: The Red Hat Society of IL, the Food and Clothing Ministry of New Mt. Calvary, Public Housing Advisory Council of MN, and served as a Caretaker of the Senior Building on Broadway. She also became a Mother of New Mt Calvary M.B. Church and, until her death, served as the Chair of the Mother Board. She was an instrumental steward who served in many capacities and ensured that God’s word was shared with whomever she came in contact with. Cecelia, needless to say, lived a full life on her own terms and danced to her own beat (literally). She was given the opportunity to experience love on various levels. Later, in 2013, she married Kenneth Wilson, Sr. Cecelia departed this life on Friday, February 12, 2021. Preceding her in death: Eugene Leonard Sr. (Father), Elizabeth McClaister-Garcia (Grandmother), Ida Grant-Rogers (Step Grandmother), Robert Rogers, Sr. (Grandfather), Sherry Rogers (Aunt), Robert Rogers, Jr. (Uncle), Frederick Hunter, Sr (Husband), Ronald Rogers (Uncle), Larry Leonard (Brother), and Anthony Barr (Son-in-law). Cecelia is survived by her husband, Kenneth Wilson of Minneapolis, MN; mother, Helen Rogers-Leonard of Kansas City, KS.; three children, Washitha (Floyd) Hunter-Burton of Las Vegas, NV, Helen Hunter of Minneapolis, MN, and Frederick Hunter, Jr. of Jackson, MS; three brothers, Eugene Leonard, Jr., Marvin Leonard, and Ernest (Diedre) Leonard, all of Chicago IL; three sisters, Beverly Washington and LaVerne Harris of Chicago, IL, Sandra (Wayne) Coleman of Kansas City, KS; six grandchildren, Alexis, Kieara, Jonnita, Glenn III, Anton, and Glentrel of Minneapolis, MN; two step-children, Kenneth Wilson Jr. and Alisha Wilson of St. Paul, MN; three step-grandchildren, Marlisha, Martell, and Romel; four great-grandchildren Jordan, Anthony, Kameron, and King; two brothers-in-law, Anthony and Keith of Chicago, IL; three sisters-in-law, Grace, Helen, and Peaches of Chicago, IL. In addition, she leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Cecelia was a mother to three, but considered the following as chosen children and grandchildren: Quincia, Ethel, Q’montae, Dae’yanna, the Taylor Made Family (TMF), “her” Bishop and the entire New Mt. Calvary Family. Her kindred spirit will truly be missed.
