Phyllis Jean Hayes-Russell

Our Dear Mother, Phyllis Jean Russell (Hayes), 74, of Roseville, MN, departed this life peacefully on August 14, 2026, at her home. Phyllis was born on February 12, 1952, in Peoria, IL, to Dorothy Hayes and Carthel Hunter. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and, at her departure, was a member of the Kingdom Hall in Minneapolis, MN. Phyllis worked for many years at Methodist Hospital until relocating to Minneapolis, MN, and retiring. Phyllis was a woman of strength, resilience, and unmistakable presence. She loved reading, cooking, sewing, crocheting, and knitting, and she had a passion for completing puzzles—a love she passed down to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had her own special way of expressing love, and those closest to her will remember the moments, lessons, laughter, and memories they shared. Her passing leaves an emptiness in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, but her memory will remain with her family forever. Above all, Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend. Phyllis leaves to cherish her precious memory three daughters: Crystal (Abazie) Ehiemere of Cumming, GA; Jayetan (LaDural) Bond of Indianapolis, IN; and Shantel Hayes of St. Paul, MN. She is also survived by her brothers, Carthel Hayes Jr. and Gary Hayes of Peoria, IL, and Frederick (Toya) Hayes of Chicago, IL; her sister, Maria Gulley of Peoria, IL; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Anthony (Tony) Gulley Jr.; her aunt, Faye Renee Douglas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her dearly. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life, Albert Russell; her son, Keone Hayes; her brother-in-law, Anthony Gulley Sr.; her sister-in-law, Delores Morrison Brown; her uncles, Michael Adams and Darius Buckley; her aunts, Deborah (Dee) Jackson and Francine Knox; one granddaughter, Kayla Cotton; and one great-grandson, Dayon Lyles. Rest peacefully, Mom! Your earthly work is complete. Job well done! You will forever be remembered, forever be loved, and forever remain in our hearts. Phyllis's journey has ended, but the lives she touched and the family she helped create will continue to carry a part of her wherever they go. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 7403 N. Radnor Rd., Peoria, IL 61615 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Arrangements were made especially for the Hayes-Russell family and professionally directed by Estes Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services of Minneapolis, MN.
