Kent Michael Batsell "Butchie"

Kent Michael Batsell, “Butchie” as he was fondly referred to by family and friends, was born to Kenneth Batsell and Carol Batsell-Benner, on Thursday, December 23, 1965, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Kent was raised in the Willard-Hay neighborhood and educated in the Minneapolis public school system. Kent graduated from Henry High School in 1983. From there he enlisted into the United States Navy. Butchie possessed a natural gift for cooking, which he further developed during his time in the Navy as a culinary specialist. Following his discharge, he successfully applied his training and experience to a professional culinary career, working in numerous establishments across Minneapolis and its surrounding suburbs. One of Butchie’s greatest passions was cooking and grilling for family and friends. He took pride in preparing a wide variety of foods and creating memorable gatherings for those he loved. In addition to his love of cooking, Butchie enjoyed watching sports and cherishing time spent with family and close friends. Butchie shifted his culinary experience to working for Municipal Parking, Inc. This is where he met his future wife Rose. What began with a simple lunch and conversation grew into a lasting love. They shared 10 years together before marriage, and 23 years as husband and wife. Kent took great pride in his work and in the life he built with his family. On the early morning of Monday, July 13, 2026, Butchie answered the Lord’s call and went home to glory, escorted by an angel to his eternal rest. Butchie was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth W. Batsell; mother, Carol Lee Batsell-Benner; brother Kenneth D. Batsell. Grandfather, James Batsell; grandmother, Leonetta Batsell-Woods and grandmother, Marion Hayes Everett. Aunt, Diane Batsell; uncle, Wesley Batsell and aunt, Jean Hicks. Butchie leaves to mourn his passing and forever cherish his memory, his loving wife, Rose; children, Nyasha Batsell and James Batsell from a previous relationship; children Loren, Anissa and Jaden Batsell all of whom reside in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sister, Tracy Chanel Batsell, nephew Rickey Batsell-Parks; uncle, James Batsell, aunts, Rosalyn Batsell and Lorna Smith; uncle, Shane Hicks and bonus dad, Arthur Bernard Benner. Butchie is also survived by a large host of family, extended family and friends. Butchie was a selfless man with a generous heart and the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. His kindness, stories, laughter, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed and forever treasured by all who knew and love
