Arthur Melvin Samuel “Sammy” McDowell was born at Roseland Community Hospital in Chicago, Illinois on March 4th, 1976. “Sammy” is preceded in death by Barn McDowell Jr. (Father), and Olivia McDowell (Mother). Siblings: Cynthia McDowell, Barn Earl McDowell (Jo Jo). He is survived by siblings Kenneth Pinex, Shaawn-Dai McDowell, Micheal Mcdowell Sr., Donnell McDowell, Sr., Angela McDowell, and Byron McDowell. Nephews: Micheal McDowell Jr., Jaylen McDowell, Jamir McDowell, Matthew McDowell, Sammy McDowell (Lil’ Sammy), Jordan McDowell, Tavion McDowell, and Donnell McDowell, Jr,. He is survived by his Nieces: Pooquelle McDowell, Mya McDowell, Destiny McDowell, Deasha McDowell, Jhane McDowell, Shirley McDowell, Olivia McDowell, and a host of great Nieces and Nephews. Sammy loved his family in Word and Deed. Sammy’s family transcended his biological family; which he referred to as " Framily". He was a member of Shiloh Temple International Ministries, under the leadership of Bishop Richard D. Howell, Jr. & Pastor Bettye Howell where he was a faithful member for over three decades lending his gifts of Song and Worship. In addition to being devoted to his family, a committed member of his Church, and an upstanding Business and Community man. Sammy created multiple opportunities in which he provided platforms for other individuals to have access to employment and mentorship regarding business. He believed in giving individuals second chances. He received countless awards for his leadership in small business. His restaurant grew over the past 12 years to become a destination place known as Sammy’s Avenue Eatery which grew to be beloved by the local community and beyond. Sammy’s Avenue Eatery became known as a place to get great food, networking, conversations, and a place of safety and refuge. Sammy will always be cherished and remembered for his Love, Hospitality, Peace, and Generosity.
