Elder Anthony Davenport

Anthony Leon Davenport was born June 15, 1964, in Chicago Illinois to the late Lester Davenport and Vivian Jones-Harris. The night before his 18th birthday, he shared this testimony many times there was a preacher on the corner of 73rd and Racine speaking about Jesus. Anthony said he wanted to know who this Jesus is and today we are rejoicing because he called the name of Jesus and was welcomed into Heaven. Anthony attended Calumet Senior H.S. (Chicago, IL), not long after his 18th birthday he told his mama, his sister, and his brothers, that he was moving to Minnesota, to attend North Central Bible College, he did not complete all of his credits to graduate but is considered an alumnus of the university. Anthony joined Free at Last Church of God in Christ in 1987 and was licensed as a Minister on February 10, 1991, and an ordained Elder on August 22nd, 1994. Anthony served in various positions @ Free at Last COGIC he was president of the Evangelism department, was part of the prison ministry, taught the new members class and in later years was appointed Assistant Pastor and was a faithful member for over 30 years. When Free at Last COGIC moved out of state, Anthony became a member of the House of Praise COGIC and served as Evangelism President always teaching about the goodness of God. Anthony loved to work and served in many positions as a janitor/maintenance worker and his last job was at Walmart, one of his proudest moments was receiving Employee of the Month in June 2021. Anthony was blessed from his union with his former wife with three children (Brittany, Whitney, and Anthony Jr). In 2013 he met the love of his life/ his friend as he called her Evangelist Dr. Michelle Davenport at the Leadership conference at First Church of God in Christ. They courted for over a year and married July 19, 2014, (which was his mother’s birthday). They did not have any biological children, but he was blessed with four stepchildren from their union (Stephon Jr, Romain, Destiny, and Brianna). He was also blessed from their union with 17 step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. In 2017, they adopted four of her grandchildren (Taniysha, Mikyah, Kamron, and Demiyah). Anthony departed this life during Church service on Sunday, April 28th, 2024 (Stephon Jr. birthday). He took one final lap around the Church that afternoon with his hands raised high, praising God and God welcomed him into Heaven. Anthony is preceded in death by his father and mother: Lester Davenport and Vivian Jones-Harris. Uncles: Carl Jones Sr. and Henry Jones Aunts: Eyvonne Cocroft, and Elaine Rowland. Anthony leaves to cherish his memory his wife of Nine- and 1/2-years Evangelist Dr. Michelle Davenport, his children (Brittany, Whitney, and Anthony Jr.) his stepchildren (Stephon Jr, (Sara), Romain, Destiny, and Brianna). 17 step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Aunts: Verna Moore, Eyvette Jones, and Uncle Vernon Jones Jr. Siblings: One sister-Valerie Jones, and three brothers-Arthur Jones Sr., Michael Davenport, and Gregory Harris. Nieces: Crystal Jones, Denise Winters, Teresa Winters, Melissa Jones, Deja Jones, Tiffany Sims, Maliyah Davenport, Savannah Davenport, Jaida Harris. Nephews: Steven Jones, Nathan Winters, Howard Winters Jr., Zachary Winters, Arthur Jones Jr. Jonathan Jones, Gregory Harris Jr.Robert Collins, Michael Davenport Jr, Malachi Davenport, Marcus Davenport, and Maelik Davenport. Anthony is also a grand and great grand uncle as well.
