Akuyo Rosalie Agbeka

Obituary for Akuyo Rosalie Agbeka (married name: Amla) Rosalie A. Agbeka, age 89, of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026. Preceded in death by husband, Christian Kodzo Amla and oldest son Sipi Amla; and eights siblings. She’s the oldest out of 12 siblings (4 girls and 8 boys). She was like a glue that held her family together until she passed. Survived by children, Paul Amla (and children) with whom she lived with here in Minneapolis for over 18 years, Moses K. Amla (wife and children) in Togo; Donne K. Amla (and child) in Togo; Pascaline A. Amla (husband and children) in Belgium, Romain A. Amla (wife and children) in Canada. Also survived by many much-loved cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Rosalie had a total of 8 children, two of whom passed at childbirth. She had 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Rosalie grew up in Agou Kumawu, a small town in Togo (West Africa) about 104 km from the capital Lome. She spent her K-12 education with Our Lady of the Apostles in Agou Kumawu and joined the sister convent for a few years. After high school, like her mother Cecilia, she went into sewing and design school. She obtained a degree in clothing design. She had a dozen students and apprentices. After a decade in design business, at her late husband’s recommendation, she went back to school to obtain her teaching license and taught K-5 until she retired in 2001 in Togo. Like her parents, Rosalie was devoted Catholic and an active member of the Order of St. John in the city of Kpalime (about 120 Km from the capital Lome). She spent most of her adult life in Kpalime. In January 2007 she came to the US and stayed with her youngest son Paul Amla. She found joy in watching her friends and neighbors’ children whenever possible. She loved being surrounded by her grandchildren in Minneapolis as well as in Canada and Belgium whenever she visited her children Romain in Canada and Pascaline in Belgium. While the cold Minnesota winter weather was not her favorite, Rosalie enjoyed her new life here. She found herself being part of a larger community in the Twin Cities, including communities of Americans, Togolese, and other melting pot immigrants. Even though she was away from her homeland Togo, her faith, family connection, and community involvement was a big part of who she is.There’s no doubt that she was a loving and caring person who dared to give it all. Mass of Christian Burial noon Friday February 27 with visitation beginning at 11:00am at The Church of Christ the King, 51st and Zenith Ave South, Minneapolis. Interment (Togo). In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Church of Christ the King.
