Betty Jean Newell

November 15, 1961 - December 31, 2021

Betty Jean Newell, age 60, passed away in Minneapolis, MN on December 31, 2021 at North Memorial Hospital after a month-long struggle with Covid-19. Betty was born on November 15th, 1961 to Samuel Lee Catchings and Alice Catchings. Betty has been described as humble, quiet, sweet, funny and a kind person by those who love her. Betty loved God since she was 6 years old and never turned away from Him. Over the years she grew closer to the things of God, developing a love for The Bible, and learned to trust Him with everything in her. Betty took great care of her home, and poured everything she had into being a wonderful wife and mother. She enjoyed doing hair, as a passion for a long time. She loved her husband Lawrence, they grew old together and their love remains unconditional and eternal. Lawrence has called her “his second heartbeat.” She devoted herself to raising her 8 children as a stay at home Mom. They saw her as an angel on this earth who taught them about God, love, care and kindness for the world around them. Her grandbabies called her “Mama Bebe” and adored her sweet smile and deep hugs. She loved the colors yellow and red, getting manicures weekly and playing worship music all day. Betty was a consistent person, she was strong in spirit and her light will always be remembered on this earth. She was surrounded by her husband Lawrence Newell and her children as she went to heaven. Betty is preceded in death by her father Samuel Lee Catchings and her brother Samuel Lee Catchings Jr. She is survived by her mother Alice Catchings, her brothers Larry Catchings, Curtis Catchings, Charles Catchings, Larry Killingsworth, and Randy Harris. Her sisters Trina Catchings, Lou Catchings and Barbara Copeland. She created a beautiful, full family and is survived by her children, Lawrence Catchings (Gage Urvina), Charles Newell, Craig Newell, Travis Newell (Teresa Maldonado) Travona Newell, Marlisha Newell, Alicianna Newell and Cory Newell. As well as her honorary daughter Tammiesha Roberson. She was Grandmother “Mama Bebe” to, Dwight, La’Zia, Deshawn, Sonny, Sarah, Za’niah, Kendrick,Benito, Bella, Dezi, Nova and Mayeli.
